From Tongue to Tail: The Unfolding of our Animal Body
A Cultivation of Pleasure and Expressiveness through Movement, Voice and Touch
“One of our greatest fears is to eat the wildness of the world.
Our mothers intuitively understood something essential: the green is poisonous to civilization. If we eat the wild, it begins to work inside us, altering us, changing us. Soon, if we eat too much, we will no longer fit the suit that has been made for us. Our hair will begin to grow long and ragged. Our gait and how we hold our body will change. A wild light begins to gleam in our eyes. Our words start to sound strange, nonlinear, emotional. Unpractical. Poetic.
Once we have tasted this wildness, we begin to hunger for a food long denied us, and the more we eat of it the more we will awaken.” – Stephen Harrod Buhner
In the physicality of our tissues, all the way in the connection between our tongue and our genitals lives our animal body. The voice of our sensual, sexual, and wild essence. Bonded to our reptilian brain, in deep conversation with our psoas, kidneys, adrenals and nervous system, it tells us of danger and safety, of pleasure and juiciness. An organ of perception, rooted in the wildness of the Earth and winged from the freedom of the sky, it is instinctual. Deserting any form of control, inhibition and restriction, it is the expression of our deepest and unbounded desires and longings.
Fluid, supple, untamed, the animal body is the guardian of our land as well as the nurturer of our deepest passionate and wildest movement. When it guides us, there is no control, no mind, only the unexpected truth of our sensual and intuitive self. As it moves us, it feeds our imaginative body, guiding us through a landscape made of images, feelings, sensations and impulses. Here identity dissolves, form becomes a moving sea. Here, life is juicy, wild, blossoming and creative!
How do we free our animal body? How can we reclaim the strength that resides deep into it? How do we become pleasure? Juiciness? How do we embody freedom of expression?
